Al-Baqour

For early childhood development in the arab society of the Negev

Al-Baqour was founded by professional men and women from a variety of fields, mainly specialists in early childhood well-being. Team members are Arab and Jewish residents of the Negev.

We develop and operate culturally and community appropriate models for young children and their families. In addition, we design and carry out programs for partners and colleagues

Our Vision

Reinstating a sense of inner control to the parents and the community as a whole, while facing the changes and transformations the community goes through at the intersection between a traditional and a modern society.

Imbuing parents with confidence and inner strength in their ability to impact and promote their kids development, from  childhood to adulthood.

We put a lot of thought into devising methods to preserve traditional practices of parenting and raising children, in correspondence with the changing reality.

Our Goal

Promoting action and public discussion around the importance of professional intervention during early childhood, andl to support and empower young parents.

Albaqour aims to  encourage and strengthen collaboration between arab and jewish professionals in the Negev from various disciplines, deepening their knowledge, training and development of local professionals.

Public discussions often ignore children of the arab community in the Negev in  the age group below six. As a result, they do not receive sufficient responses to their needs, except for the basic resources at Mother-Child centers.

During the first thousand days of life, children are transparent, not seen by the welfare or education systems and often absent from statistics presented to policy-makers,  due to both a lack of culturally accessible responses, as well as under-consumption of said services.

This is the ground upon which albaqour was founded

In the Bedouin community of the Negev there are 61,000 children in the age group between birth and six years old

This age group constitutes 24% of the community's population

In the age group of 3-6, 36% of the children do not attend any

On average, there are 6.8 children per household

according to the GDC report “Mapping for early childhood in the Bedouin community”, February 2015 >>
